Getting Started with Homeschool Transcripts

Welcome to Getting Started with Homeschool Transcripts!

Want to customize your teen's high school education to who they are and how they learn, but fear is holding you back...

Have a Teen nearing graduation, and you need to figure out how to package up all that delicious learning on to the transcript...

Want to let your child explore their interests in the teen years, but don't quite know how to make that work for the transcript?

I invite you to Grab a cup a coffee or tea, and let's get you started with high school transcripts, with confidence.

Hi, I'm Shannon, mom to four always homeschooled, mostly unschooled kiddos who are now grown and graduated.  For the last 10 years I've been quietly helping fellow homeschool families translate and document their teen's body of learning - all that delicious learning, skills, and experiences  that happen during the teen years - into high school credit on an American high school transcript.

Using source materials and tons of examples, I've pulled that experience and info together for you into a series of live recorded workshops, to help you gain the confidence you need to tackle the homeschool transcript and record keeping for the transcript with ease.

In Getting Started with Homeschool Transcripts, you'll learn:

What is a transcript, really?

When do you need a transcript?

What information do you need to include on the transcript?

What are credits anyway?

How to assign credit, when?

What about course titles?

Do I need course descriptions?

How to Keep Track of it All (aka Record Keeping)

And how to ReCreate records if you need to create a transcript but you have limited or no records, or your records were destroyed.

All with tons of examples from real sources - including grown and graduated homeschoolers and unschoolers.

We cover:

What to do with public or private high school credit

How to document outside classes or curriculum

How to bundle learning experiences together into credits

How to identify, title, and assign credit to:

  • Immersive travel experiences

FAQs

We use a blend of curriculum, classes, and interest led learning. Will this apply to me?

Yes. Absolutely!  Several of our examples is exactly this combination.

My teen went to public high  school for a couple years, then homeschooled with mentors, curriculum, dual credit, and self-directed learning.  Will this apply to me?

YES!  Absolutely! We cover all of those scenarios, including how to bring forward the public school high school credits and how to combine it all together with dual credit, mentors, curriculum, and self-directed learning on to one high school transcript.

I'm not an unschooler, will this work for me?

Yes. The information covers what you need to know to put together an American high school transcript for your homeschooled teen, regardless of your style and methodology - no matter how relaxed your approach.

However, if you are mimicing "school at home" or a conventional high school education, our approach of capturing credit while it is happening or after the fact will likely feel uncomfortable.

I am a radical unschooler, will this apply to me?

Yes.  While we cover learning across a variety of methodologies, our focus is on documenting all that amazing learning our kids have done through their interests, passions, and deep dives, and living every day life.  Shannon radically unschooled her four children throughout the teen years.  Many of our examples reflect self-directed learning.

I am not in the United States, will this apply to me?

Some of the tips on record keeping and recreating records workshops, as well as courses titles workshop may apply, but we cannot guarantee that.  Anything specific to transcript formats and calculating credits will probably not apply. You'll want to make sure you know the laws and documentation requirements and formats that apply where you live. Unfortunately, we have no experience with homeschool transcripts outside of the United States.
